Spiritual Wrestling
I wish I understood wrestling. I need some of you to educate me. There seem to be so many types of wrestling, like Freestyle or Greco-Roman. Then there is the glitz and money of UFC. I’m lost about how it all fits together.
I do get the ‘wrestler' of the New Testament though. His name is Epaphras. We need to be like him:
"Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. I vouch for him that he is working hard for you”
Colossians 4:12
This guy knew how to pray! He ‘is always wrestling in prayer’ for the Colossian Christians. There is a big lesson here for us - especially after the amazing Sunday we had at church.
On Sunday we had the joy of watching 3 baptisms and 3 confirmations. Adults going public with their faith. Plus one family committing their child to the Lord in baptism. Praise God! I loved watching it all happen.
But here is the challenge…
The devil hates it when anyone takes a step of faith and commitment to his enemy. Again and again I’ve seen freshly baptised people come under spiritual attack. So… we need to pray.
More than pray, we need to ‘wrestle’ in prayer for Kayden, Stuart, Lucas, Erin and Ava. Pray they would grow in the Lord, that they ‘may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured’. Pray for protection. Pray they would be the good soil bearing a harvest. Pray that just as they 'received Christ Jesus as Lord', they would 'continue to live [their] lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as [they] were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness’ (Col 2:6-7).
Will you become a champion of spiritual wrestling?
PS. Please pray for our Youth sleepover Friday night also.
