What is a “Big Prayer”, anyway?
Churches use vision statements all the time. At one level, they express what the church wants to do for God and that’s a good thing.
So why a “Big Prayer”? We see it as a vision which is humbly dependent on God’s action. Our Big Prayer for Dapto Anglican will be our heartfelt plea to God for what He will do with and through us in this place. It will be our common cry to God, on our hearts, minds and lips, and our definition of how we show up as God’s people at Dapto Anglican.
Articulating Our Big Prayer is the first step. It will be short and memorable. Following the prayer will be a set of goals (maybe 5?) that will give descriptive power to our prayer, then an action plan will bring the prayer to life in our everyday context — so prayer, goals and action plan.
We’re doing this together. It has begun as a collaboration of staff together with a 15-person Steering Team representing the congregation and Parish Council. Importantly, we need the whole congregation involved too. We want your feedback on the drafts that have been created, and we need your passion and your ideas to help us work out how we bring it to life!
We’ll be announcing dates for two workshops for the congregation, expected to be in June (watch this space). The workshops will be identical, will have child minding available, and are designed for everyone to join in. We need your help! Will you help us shape the next few years for Dapto Anglican, for the glory of our great God?
Grace and peace,
Craig
