Jesus is Historical
We begin this term looking more closely at the story of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel. As Christians we believe that this story of Jesus is historical; it happened. We can investigate and verify the evidence both of his life, death and resurrection from the Bible and other sources. The history of our faith is important. As Paul says, concerning Jesus resurrection, ‘If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.’ (1 Cor. 15:13-14) Our faith rests on whether Jesus actually rose from the dead or not. Our faith is historical. But our faith is not purely historical. The Bible is not a record of what happened, the Bible was written by God through human writers to ignite and growth faith. It is a true story that invites us to respond. It is not just bare facts. This story about Jesus makes claims on each of our lives. We read the Bible not just to get to know the historical Jesus, but also to come in contact with the living God who invites us into a relationship with him through his Son, Jesus, and the message of salvation that Jesus declares. The Bible tells the story of a God who created this world and promised to save it through his Son, Jesus. Jesus is at the centre of God’s salvation story, this salvation history. This story is not just bare history, but demands a response. How do you respond? Join us as we get to know Jesus in Luke’s Gospel.
