Celebrating 40 Years of Heart and Help
Thrift shopping - it’s cheap, sustainable, fun, stylish and has become a mainline trend across the country. Dapto is no exception to the thrifting revolution. And DAC is at the forefront with our Op Shop! And we’re approaching a key celebration...
Our Warden, Dave Langley, writes:
This October marks a special milestone - forty years since Dapto Anglican Church took over the operation of the Home Mission Society (now Anglicare) Op Shop, rebranding it as the DAC Op Shop. From its beginnings in Parkside Plaza, it was relocated to the Dandaloo Shopping Centre in February 2001. While known for affordable, good-quality clothing and household goods, its deeper mission has always been to share the love of Christ in everyday moments - through a warm smile, a listening ear, and a helping hand.
The shop is staffed by a passionate team of volunteers, led by Carl and Lyn Cheetham and David Hitchcock. While many of the volunteers are part of DAC, others come from the wider community with no church background, creating a welcoming space where faith and friendship flourish. Proceeds from the shop directly support ministry at DAC, including staff and outreach with a particular focus on Children and Youth. The shop also supports a number of missionary organisations - making every purchase part of a bigger story of hope and transformation.
As we look to the future, we’re seeking new volunteers - particularly younger people who can bring fresh energy while learning from those who’ve served faithfully for many years. If you have a heart for people and a desire to share Christ’s love in practical ways, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Susan Boyley at susan@daptoanglican.org.au to find out more.
Let’s get behind the mission any way we can. Let’s pray. Let’s thank God for 40 years of service to our community.
Grace and peace,
Mark
