Imagining God’s Future for our Church
This week our staff team attended the REACH Australia conference with 1300 other church leaders from across the nation.
Were our prayers for a valuable time together answered?
Yes
Did you get rained out?
No, [the area of] the Central Coast [that we stayed in] seemed to dodge the worst of the weather. It feels as if God were smiling on us!
Was it a good time for the new team to bond?
Definitely. We sat under God’s word together, prayed together, ate together, laughed a lot, and wrestled with important ideas about how we can serve and lead DAC. This was so timely for us in this new season!
What was the conference about?
The most important topic of all - spurring church leaders to bring glory to God by reaching the nation for Christ. We were urged to make and grow disciples of Jesus in ever increasing number. Crucial to this task is the health of Australia's churches, and we explored how to help DAC grow in health, that we would be effective in saving the lost in our area.
What do you think will be the greatest long term benefit for DAC?
God willing, as I begin my role at DAC, I'm reminded that the nominators cited the church survey's desire for a minister who would 'develop, lead, and engage a clear strategy and vision.' The conference reinforced the importance of our vision, with compelling Bible teaching on the plight of the lost, Christ's atoning death, and disciple-making. We started conversations around our vision, key purposes and refining our roles on the staff team.
This time away has been important for building a common mindset. This is only the start of that journey, and it will involve much more consultation and time, but it was an exciting taste the possibilities ahead of us!
Would you pray with and for us as we imagine God’s future for our church?
Grace and peace,
Rev. Mark Boyley
