The rhythm of money!
I met someone who thought that churches got Government funding. He couldn’t believe that everything we do is paid for by generous church members! It ended up being a really positive conversation as it slowly dawned on him that Christians must really take God seriously to part with our hard earned cash like that. Christian generosity is a great witness to our true beliefs and priorities.
On Sunday I shared how I’m planning to talk about money here at Dapto Anglican each year.
Most Sundays we’ll say very little.. we just have a reminder and/or prayer at some point in the service. It’s important we keep 'money talk' low-key most weeks. I want you to know that if you bring a friend, we’re not going to be making them feel awkward with a laboured financial appeal on repeat each week.
Over the course of the year I’m thinking we’ll touch on money at the following times:
1. When it comes up in the sermon. As we work through books of the Bible, the topic will come up from time to time.
2. Our Wardens will continue to keep us updated quarterly on the budget. Or more frequently if there is a bit of a crisis… (hopefully not!).
And sometimes there might be special appeal or fundraiser for a camp or something similar.
3. At the end of Financial year we’ll let you know about the tax deductible funds – the Scripture teaching fund and the building fund.
4. At the start of term 4 we’ll have a Celebration Series as we’ve done these past few weeks - thanking God for what He has done through our church over the year, and calling us to reflect on our giving to achieve our vision for the new year ahead.
Hopefully this ‘rhythm’ will serve us well, and help our generosity to be an outstanding witness to our community.
Last Sunday’s talk and the interview that followed with Greg and Bev Batten are important for us. You can listen/re-listen by clicking HERE (or on Spotify).
Grace and Peace,
