What's in a name?
Everyone has a name. For some there’s quite a story behind their name. In the Bible, names are very important. The names given to Jesus tell us who he is!
800 years before Jesus’ birth the people of God were in a hopeless situation through their disobedience and rebellion against God. Through the prophet Isaiah God declared that he will deal with the problem of their sin - ‘the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son and will call him EMMANUEL - GOD WITH US!!”
Joseph is told to call Mary’s child ‘JESUS - because he will SAVE his people from their sins.’
Angels tell the shepherds that in Bethlehem ‘the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the CHRIST (Messiah), the LORD’. The promised Saviour.
Wise men came looking for ‘the one who has been born KING.’ They worshipped him! The baby in the manger is IMMANUEL! JESUS! CHRIST! KING!
‘But these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah) - the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.’ John 20:31
